Medici Stables in Poggio a Caiano
The centuries-old stables of the Medici villa in Poggio a Caiano

The Medici Stables are located at the beginning of the road that leads from Poggio a Caiano to Prato, just underneath the Medici villa. They were built for Cosimo I around 1548 by Nicolò Pericoli known as Tribolo. The building is of a considerable size, about 3400 square meters. The structure, which is basilical in shape, could accommodate about 200 horses and accommodate the staff.

Recently, the stables have been skilfully restored and turned into an exhibition and congress center. Today the ‘F. Inverni’ municipal library is located on the ground floor and the ‘Ardengo Soffici and Italian 900’ Museum is on the first floor.
