It's a very famous route for lovers of spiritual and cultural journey and represents an inestimable heritage.
The name of Via Matilde comes from Matilde di Canossa, one of the most important historical figures of the Italian Middle Ages who was also a powerful feudatary woman and supporter of the papacy in the investitures controversy, in a historical period in which women struggled very much to have power.
It was just under the power of Matilde of Canossa that the Papal State reached one of its maximum periods of expansion, while the duchess / marquise held the power of the territories of Lombardy and Emilia Romagna as well as Tuscany.
This itinerary is a walking tour so you can calmly visit the various places of interest. During our journey we will walk along different sections of the path between San Pellegrino in Alpe and Lucca, for a total of 3 stages of about 17 kilometers each, in 3 days. The stages do not present particular difficulties, so they can be completed by anyone with a good workout.
