"A View from Within"
An exhibition to enter the mind of a robot

The exhibition titled "A View from Within" created by the Institute of Mechanical Intelligence of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa presents a series of video-installations that show the different levels of cognitive and perceptive processes that occur within a robot while it performs a simple action such as picking up an object or interacting with humans.

For the first time ever, the observer - while physically positioned within the display space - can "experience" the perceptual processes of the robotic system, enabling them to perceive how a robot "sees". Walking through the exhibition space, the visitor is immersed within a series of large videos in continuous flow that refer to the various sensory data coming from the outside world and the subsequent stages of its processing according to the robot's perspective.

The visual, auditory and somatosensory perceptual processes (tactile and kinesthetic) that take place are revealed at the level of processing of sensory information within the control system of the robotic system through algorithms. The processing can be observed as if one were inside the "mind" of the robot.

The show is on display in the exhibition space of Via Montalbano until March 6, and can be visited using the entrance ticket to the Leonardiano Museum.
