In the cold winter soil grows a mushroom with a pungent flavor; it is the Bianchetto Truffle, known as the Marzuolo.
In San Miniato, this product of the earth has been traditionally celebrated in Cigoli for 23 years with the Marzuolo Truffle Market Exhibition, organized by the Giuseppe Gori Association in the ARCI circle (March 18 and 19), to which a new event will be added in the village of Corazzano (March 11 and 12).
The Marzuolo Season will be inaugurated on Sunday, March 5, in San Miniato at the traditional Antiques Market on the first Sunday of the month, along with local products from the Mercatale. The event will be held in the Loggias of the Church of San Domenico. The ancient Via Angelica and the Conservatory of Santa Chiara will be open for the occasion, and there will be guided tours in the form of treasure hunts for children.
It will be an opportunity to learn about the organoleptic properties of this mushroom, in an educational experience of sensory analysis to learn its qualities and properties, thanks to the truffle hunters.
There will also be a space for a demonstration of truffle hunting and training of dogs, the real protagonists of this practice, able to identify the precise spot where to dig these underground riches, from 2021 UNESCO Intangible Heritage.
Finally, there will be an opportunity to observe the use of truffles in recipes, presented in the menus of San Miniato restaurants.
The program
During the event, the Via Angelica, the Conservatory of Santa Chiara, the Civic Museums of San Miniato, and the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art will be open for visits.
