"Terre Furiose" is a programme of events that will brighten the city of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana throughout 2022 on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Ludovico Ariosto's arrival there. He came to carry out the role of Commissioner Estense in Garfagnana from February 1522 to June 1525.
The cultural initiatives taking place throughout the year focus on the figure of the illustrious governor and, more generally, on the historical period which lasted four centuries, during which Castelnuovo di Garfagnana was part of the Estense Duchy.
On the occasion of the anniversary, renovation works on the symbolic monument of Castelnuovo Garfagnana, the Ariostesca Fortress, will be completed.
The first event is scheduled for 9.15pm on Saturday February 19 at Teatro Alfieri, with the show titled "Orlando Furioso - Il canto del Rinascimento Italiano" with Tullio Solenghi and Corrado Bologna.
From February 19 to September 30, great Italian contemporary fantasy art returns to shine in the Valle del Fantastico with four illustrators who interpret the master's best works: Luca Zontini, Paolo Barbieri, Dany Orizio and Lucio Parrillo. Their interpretations of Ariostesque characters will be exhibited in the foyer of Teatro Alfieri.
At 9.15pm on February 20 at Teatro Alfieri, there will be the show titled "La corte e i briganti, storia di Ludovico Ariosto in Garfagnana". The theatrical adaptation and narration is by Luca Scarlini and music is performed by the "Archè" ensemble. The show is in collaboration with the "Il Serchio delle Muse" association.
In the following months, there will be cultural meetings aimed at schools ideated by Alessandro Benassi to spread knowledge of Ariosto's work among the youngest in Garfagnana.
The programme of online gaming sessions provided by Twitch of Lucca Comics & Games is aimed at young people and began on January 28.
Some events require payment, therefore we invite you to view the event website for information and updates.
