Two Centuries of Textile and Fashion Design
The transformations of textile and fashion design from the late 18th century to the mid-20th century

An exhibition housed inside the Prato Textile Museum through April 30, 2023.

More than 100 objects, including men's and women's clothing, clothing and furnishing fabrics, fashion figurines, sample books and fashion accessories, document the transformations of the textile industry from the late 18th century to the mid-20th century, which occurred in a historical period when the relationship between tradition and modernity, between the uniqueness of the artistic product and the replicability of the serial product became the subject of a heated debate on the applied arts.

The protagonists of this long journey - textile designers and fashion creators - with their artistic and professional experiences (as evidenced by the works on display by William Morris, Mariano Fortuny, Raoul Dufy, Gio Ponti, Lucio Fontana, Elsa Schiaparelli and Maria Monaci Gallenga) left a trace and an important contribution to the history of style and design.

All of the objects come from the Museum's collections: some are entirely new because they recently entered the collection and are therefore being exhibited for the first time; others have undergone special restoration that has finally allowed them to be safely displayed to the public.
