Galileo Galilei Airport, situated 1 km from Pisa central station, is among the 10 most important airports in Italy for passenger traffic and boasts a huge variety of national and international connections.
For those arriving or departing from Pisa international airoport, there are four different ways to reach Florence.
Here are the details.
The airport of Pisa and Pisa Centrale, the city main train station, are connected by the PisaMover, a high-speed shuttle service that runs every day from 6 a.m. to midnight, every 5/8 minutes. The average travel time between the airport and the station is about 5 minutes.
Once in Pisa Centrale, just hop on a train to Florence: there is an average of one train every hour, with a travel time ranging from 50 minutes, for the fastest options, to 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Tickets (also combined with the PisaMover fare) can be purchased online (Trenitalia) or at any train ticket office (there is one also inside the airport).
Tickets for PisaMover can also be purchased from the automatic machines at the departure points.
The company that currently carries out the bus connection service between Pisa airport and Florence is the Sky Bus Lines Caronna. The service runs every day, all year round; the duration of the journey is about 60 minutes, traffic permitting, without intermediate stops.
In Pisa, busses depart and arrive in front of the airport. In Florence, the daytime runs stop near the Tramway line T2 stop "Guidoni", the night ones (10/11 p.m. - 6/4 a.m., depending on the season) in front of the central train station of Santa Maria Novella.
For departures from Florence, tickets can only be purchased online. In Pisa, tickets can also be purchased at the dedicated ticket office.
Sky Bus Lines Caronna also connects the airport of Pisa to the airport of Florence via Montecatini, Pistoia and Prato.
There is also the possibility of getting to Florence by taxi: from Pisa airport to the center of Florence it costs around € 170.00 (plus any supplements).
The service is managed by the Pisana Tassisti Cooperative - CO.TA.PI. - and is active 24 hours a day. Taxis are located on the Arrivals side of the airport and can also be contacted and booked by phone +39.050541600.
If you are planning to rent a car, check the list of car rental companies based at Pisa airport (the Car Hire Terminal is only 500 meters from the Passenger Terminal).
You can reach Florence by car in about an hour.
It's also possible to rent a chauffeured car (N.C.C.).
